Non-binary is a way to pretend you are different, alien, like emo but colorful and at risk of same medicalizations as trans.
Non-binary is a waystation between your sex and opposite sex that you aspire to be but don’t pass at.
Non-binary is a protest against sex based stereotypes that were rejected 50 years ago but now thanks to social media are more exaggerated as ever, photoshopped perfections.
Non-binary is a way to avoid claiming your sexed biology.
Non-binary is a rebellion against parents who disapprove.
Non-binary is a big FU to a world that is fun, but lonely after the hype wears away.
Non-binary is a way for mediocre male athletes to win easy cash.
Non-binary is a way for female athletes to stand out while staying in female category.
Very interesting and thoughtful observations. Thank you. For those claiming "non-binary" status within the so called "helping professions," of counseling, social work, therapy, etc. - one can't help but wonder if it is a way to certify one's own "credibility" to work with those claiming "gender dysphoria," and with "transition issues" - without having to actually dip into the waters oneself. "Non-binary" identifies oneself as - "part of the tribe" - without having to engage in any of the "scarification rituals" of trans. Its a sort of "safe-space" within the barking madness of it all.
It isn't some neutral ground. It signifies acceptance of a completely false ideology that is at odds with all experience, to say nothing of science.
There are people who for whatever reason have no interest in sex. Women who would as soon not have breasts, men who have no interest in chasing women. They aren't "nonbinary," they still have a sex, they just don't care about the whole horizontal hokey-pokey thing. Their designation is "asexual."
Aside: the polysemy of "sex," both the physical act of love and male/female, has always annoyed me. And I can no longer use "biological gender" because the g-word has been mangled into uselessness.
The BBC Nolan interviews were fascinating. One of them was with the "first nonbinary mayor" somewhere in England. This guy (assuming this based on his voice) was asked in several differing and very polite ways to define what "nonbinary" is, but he was unable to do so, despite claiming this as his identity. OK, so if they can't tell us what they are, how are us mere gender peasants supposed to know?
It has probably always been a part of human adolescence to rebel a bit, to find your own way forward. But until recently, no one supported teens in permanently mutilating themselves in this process. https://lucyleader.substack.com/p/looking-back-from-the-future
There is no such animal as a nonbinary mammal. And note to this "community". If you are an ovulating nonbinary and you have unprotected sex with an ejaculating nonbinary, you may well discover that you are not nonbinary at all when a brand-new human starts growing inside you.
This is a great piece. In my most skeptical moments nonbinary feels like stolen valor and cope rolled into one. It clearly aspires to more than the ancient and venerable category of androgyny.
Malcolm Richard Clark did a thoroughly researched deep dive into the darkest aspects of non binary over on his Substack. I´d recommend subscribing even if you cancel soon after. His work is well worth reading.
At least there is such a thing as Gender Identity Disorder, even if it's been replaced by the medically incoherent "gender dysphoria," which is based on self-reports and nothing more. But there are only about 5000 with GID in the entire USA, 3/4 of them male.
"Nonbinary" has no psychiatric basis whatsoever; while "trans" is 99+% fake, "nonbinary" is 100.0% fake. It is contemptible and they should be shunned and shamed.
But kind of depends on who's counting, and how many thumbs -- to the elbows -- they have on the scales, one side or the other of the scales. Somewhat apropos of which, you might have some interest in a post on Canada's National Post by Barbara Kay on the WPATH files:
Not directly relevant to the GID stats, but it links to another NP article which throws a shot or two at the sadly captured Statistics Canada department which claims some 100,000 people in Canada -- population some 40 million -- who are "transgender or non-binary":
I've often argued that as much as the WPATH files manifest an absolutely odious medical scandal and crime of the century, there's also some reason to argue that the consequential corruption of various governmental, educational, and scientific institutions is an even bigger pair. For elaborations on the theme, see my "Statistics Departments Corrupted by Gender Ideology":
I'm not sure fake is the right word. It's fake in the same way religious feelings ("I have a personal relationship with Jesus!") are fake - often sincere, but an etiological error of misunderstanding the origin of a feeling. Are people who speak in tonguea in a pentecostal church faking? Kind of? We can be charitable about a person's sincerity without thinking their introspection has defined the origin correctly.
There are two types though. One is a person who presents as non-binary and is consciously rejecting stereotypes and choosing to present themselves in a particular way. The other is one who believes they are inherently non-binary.
The first I have no issue with. The second is a sign of mental unwellness. The challenge is navigating between the two.

This is on point.
Also,
Non-binary means you don't have to do anything at all to change yourself, but still requires everyone around you to walk on eggshells.

Brilliant... it's "turtles all the way down"

First day on the job.
Boss: "This is uh Randella"
"Randella" has pink and cyan hair, a nose ring, strange makeup, and is festooned with pins and tags projecting "queer" credentials
"Randella": "My pronouns are they/them! What are yours?"
Me (to boss, after a lip-curling up-and-down look at the coworker): "Would you excuse me?"
(walks away)
So brutally spot-on!

Always pasty and pudgy. There kids mostly don’t exercise or even go outside. 😭
A good rule might be, “Don’t take life advice from a person who doesn’t exercise or even go outside.”
i guess a feeling of isolation and lack of attraction or the inability to connect is served by performative cheap cosplay

What's your source for the 5000 stat?
His nether regions? 🤔😉🙂

Most succinct summary to date, with a few precious barbs for spunk!
Make colored hair cool again 👩🎤
best was the Jesus and Mo cartoon a few years back. “We are special” said Moses
“ cycling through identities “
I think that’s called schizophrenia…
